Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response Or Bera

Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response or BERA is record of electrical activity over the hearing center in the brain with a series of auditory click noise stimulus.

This helps to assess Hearing cells and the auditory pathway from internal ear to the brain.

BAER Waves

I – Auditory Nerve

II – Spiral Ganglion

III – Cochlear Nucleus

IV – Sup Olivary Complex

V – Inferior Colliculus – Brainstem

It helps to judge the hearing capacity in the neonates, early detection of which can help in proper rehabilitation.

In adults, it helps to assess the hearing pathway which may be affected in various diseases like Multiple Sclerosis (MS), acoustic nueromma etc.
