Neuromuscular Disorder Testing With EMG/NCV

Dr. HansRaj MD, a pioneer in this field since last 30 years offers electrophysiological testing (EMG / NCV) for various Nerve muscle disorders at green park in south delhi. Some of the common problems where EMG/NCV studies are very helpful include carpal tunnel syndrome, tardy ulnar palsy, wrist drop, foot drop, polyneuropathies, cervical and lumbosacral radiculopathies.

EMG/NCV study is a physiological and anatomical basis of confirming a clinical diagnosis at anterior horn cell/ spinal, root, plexus, peripheral entrapment level when the patient presents with Pain / Paraesthesia / Numbness / Weakness in limbs.

NCV/EMG test is an extension of doctor’s physical examination and is performed by a specially trained physician to help determine the cause of your symptoms of pain, abnormal sensations and/or weakness.

The NCV (Nerve Conduction Velocity) test involves stimulating the nerves with absolutely harmless currents of biological strength and noting the responses over muscles and nerves on a computer screen. A tingling sensation is felt by the pulses of current. This allows to say if the nerve is damaged or pinched.

The EMG (Electromyography) test involves inserting a very fine sterile disposable needle into some of the muscles to record their electrical properties on a computer screen. Mild temporary discomfort may be felt by the needle insertion. This test is well tolerated and has no side-effects.

Instructions to the patients for Electrophysiology Testing:-

1. Test takes about 30 to 60 minutes.

2. Please take an appointment.

3. Please do not apply lotion/cream on limbs before the test.

4. Shampoo the head for Evoked Potential Test.

5. Fasting is not required.

6. No restriction of activities before or after the test, and there are no after effects.
